Decision making process

I learned a lot of new from the class activity on decision making that we just completed on Monday 3/15/10 and especially, from discussion of this event in the next class. I participated in such events in the past, bat I never think about decision making process as a system. From lecture and our discussion I learned that we have many tools which can make the decision making process to be more effective.
For example, we can use different methods to handle conflicts. In class decision making exercise I personally used a compromise method. Actually, I didn‘t choose this method, I even didn’t know that it is a method. I just behave as I thought is right in this situation. I think we were lucky, someone stepped up and took the leader responsibilities, and contributed significantly reduce the chaos in class and came to agreement.
We could use collaborating method in our decision making event. I think this method would be more efficient and would minimize our conflicts and would save our time. Definitely, it is easier come to consensus in a small groups. So I think we all learned from our lesson and now we are more experienced in decision making process.

  1. I also didn't realize there were actual terms for how people handle conflict in decision-making process. We all seem to run into conflicts (especially group projects)on frequent occasions but I personally never consider different ways to handle to them. Nice to learn something that can actually benefit me later on.

  2. WE definitely learn something with us even the semester is over. The decision making happens in everyday life although we do not think about the way. After this class activity, we would be more awared of how to handle conflicts when we make decision.

  3. The professor is right...I doubt I would have remembered much from the lecture about decision making but we definitely will remember that day. I thought it was fun at the same time frustrating. It was difficult to get the whole class to agree but our goal as class is to pass the class and to everyone, the definition of "pass" is different.

  4. I also used a compromise method to handle the conflict. In that way, everyone could get a piece of what they wanted. In addition, you were right that we were lucky to have a leader. People did not shout their ideas but rather waited for their turns and respected each other.

  5. I definitely agree with you, we got very lucky in the sense that a group leader emerged and took charge. Although there was still some chaos going on, the presence of the leader minimized it a bit and we were able to come to a class conclusion because of her. I also agree in the sense that I too had no clue all these "ideas" have a specific name for them, it's interesting to know that.

  6. I think every body basically had the same outcome and thought about the "Decision Making Process". It was clearly very hard to work with a lot of people in one group, and not a lot of people got there ideas spoken out. It would've been a lot more easier if there was smaller groups. In the end I think everyone made a good decision.
