Team performance

Two weeks ago in our Management class we were divided on several groups by six persons in each group. Each team had to construct a effective egg protector in a way, that when we drop egg from high approximately seven feet, the egg stays undamaged.
My team also as the others Had objectives. For 25 minutes we had to discuss and draw the effective egg protector which we had to built from particular materials after our discussion, then for ten minutes we had to construct adopted by our team protector.
After we tested our construction, our egg was destroyed it is mean we failed our project. In my opinion it happened because we didn’t have a clear leader, enough experience to solve this problem and we didn’t have enough time to discuss and construct egg protector. In addition, I think it would be more help to us if we would feel materials before discussion or at least while we discuss.
While we did our project we went through some steps of Planning Process. We defined our goal and objectives, determined our resources and current status vis-à-vis objectives, implemented the plan and evaluated result.
We didn’t develop several alternative strategies because we had only two scenarios or our egg stay undamaged or it going be destroyed. We didn’t make a tactical plan, probably because we didn’t have a clear leader.
In my opinion my team made a good performance. Even in spite of our plan was fail, we get a valuable experience of working as a team. Of course in next time we will be more affective as a team by allocating roles throughout the team.

  1. The time constraint seemed to be an issue for a lot of people. I agree that it would have been much easier to approach this task if we were given the materials from the start. But, I think the professor handed us the materials after so that we would put more thought into our planning. My group and I weren't sure how durable the straws were. This kind of forced us to generate alternatives in case the straws didn't meet out expectations. If they weren't as durable as we thought they would be, we would switch over to different alternative that would have accounted for flimsy straws.

  2. I agree that it is very important to think about the materials first, then make a clear plan, and a good leader can help us to make a good decision and control the time.

  3. I believe that time was a problem for our group because it was putting more pressure on us along with the requirements for creating a design for the egg that had to show 50% of it. I think my group was pretty successful in following all the steps in the planning process but I think it would have helped if we had the materials during the planning stage because that would help us figure out a better design visually.

  4. Alexander i agree with you. good management needs a good strategic plan and then good team work to finish the job and get maximum out of it. Team work is also really important and gathering a right material.
